Dusk on Lake Superior

On the way back to our resort from Grand Marais, I pulled the car over sharply into a picnic area at Cascade River State Park. I'm a sucker for any type of wayside, scenic overlook, etc. If there's a chance for a good view, I'm always in favor of stopping. And when I'm in the driver's seat it makes it even easier to hit them all. This stop was definitely worth it....

We had the place to ourselves, making it even more perfect. The calm and quiet was resounding, and the fading light added to the serenity. Looking out at Lake Superior is so refreshing and even more so when there's nothing to hear but the sound of the water lightly lapping against the rocky shore.

I could have sat out on this ledge for hours, staring out to the water. Below me was water so clear I could see the bottom of the lake and in front of me was endless water as far as the eye could see. So clear right in front of me and yet unknown when looking far ahead. It was a perfect match to my emotions as I sat and thought about impending motherhood. Sometimes you just need to stare out of the future, not knowing what it holds, but excited for it none the less. Baby J, you are so clear to me, yet so unknown how exactly you will change our future. I cannot wait to find out.

Scenes from the North Shore

Ship coming into Duluth

For Memorial Day weekend, the Mr. and I decided to take an extra, extra long weekend and celebrate all of the milestones we are having during 2015. We will both turn 30 (him already, me still clutching to 29!), will celebrate our five-year anniversary and will be welcoming our first child. That's a lot in a four-month span! With me getting closer to my expected due date, we decided we would rather drive instead of fly somewhere. The other thing on our mind while planning this trip? We wanted to relax!

Duluth, Minn.

We decided the North Shore and Lake Superior would be the perfect getaway and it did not disappoint. From the scenery to the weather, we had no trouble filling our days or not filling them at all. Here is a glimpse into the weekend. Some of our favorites? Palisade Head (that cliff!) and Voyageur Brewing Company in Grand Marais, Minn. Even though I couldn't partake in tasting the brews at Voyageur, the decor, food and live music was enough to entertain me, so much so that we went twice.

I've Got My Eye on You

I'm so ready to be back in normal clothes it's not even funny. I didn't want to buy a lot of maternity clothes, so the repeat effect is getting to me. Enter this beauty from Equipment. From the color to the length, I'm sold and so wishing I could fit into it right now. How perfect would it be for work or a date night? Here's to putting it in my cart, and going back and forth on pulling the trigger. I deserve a dress to get me motivated post baby, right? Right?!

Weekend Wishlist

These days I've got my sights set on post-pregnancy wear. Real talk, "dressing the bump" is hard and for me, it has not been very fun. So until I'm in post baby mode and actually know what will work for my body, I'm dreaming of what I would wear as the weather warms up. Good news is a watch fits any body type, so I'm thinking a little treat may be in order. If I was brave enough for heels, those would come along for the ride, too. Unfortunately I'm a little too clumsy at this point :( That's what a wishlist is for though, right?

Spring in Bloom

I always love when spring starts to pop up around me, from green grass to chirping birds. Winter in Minnesota can get pretty long, so when these tell-tale signs show up, I can't help but get all giddy and dream of summer days of al fresco dinners, grilling, wine out on the deck, and, well, just being outside in general. This winter was especially long for me as I dealt with morning sickness for the majority of it. It was hard to not get down and think winter would never end, but alas, it really has.

Spring comes a little bit slower around here, but when it finally does, it's gorgeous. Unfortunately, rain has limited our time of blooms on the trees, but I was able to capture some of the pretty ones in my neighborhood just before another downpour came in and washed away the petals.

Oh spring, I love you.

Travel Style - San Diego

When one of my friends found out she was headed to San Diego sans kids in June, the first thing she thought was, "I have nothing to wear!" She immediately asked me for help and I was happy to do a little online browsing to find some options for her. Although looking like a J. Crew model is enticing, it usually doesn't fall into the budget.

My splurge for her? Cute and comfy tennis shoes. She knows she'll be doing walking and these New Balance kicks are a great way to stay comfortable while keeping an outfit in style. I, for one, am loving the tennies trend and hope it's here to stay.

Here are my picks, now I just need to find a way to sneak in her suitcase!

Folly Beach - Charleston, S.C.

Folly Beach Fishing Pier
While in Charleston, we took a morning to head out to the beach. When you live land locked up in Minnesota, you absolutely do not miss out on an opportunity to hit up a beach when you have the chance. Failure to do so is a little bit tragic. Am I being a tad dramatic with this statement? Yes, but it's been a long winter, ok? Ok.

It was a little cool and windy, giving my girlfriends and me no desire to lay out, so we put little thought into which beach we would hit up and went with one of the closest, Folly Beach. The conditions actually made it perfect for a leisure walk up the shore. And even though Folly Beach is not known for shell hunting, there was just enough to make my heart sing.

There was something special about being pregnant on the beach, my little tot squirming around inside me. It made me look forward to walking hand in hand with a little one, watching him or her squeal with delight as water hits their little toes. Being more excited when they find a shell they love, than myself. And wrapping up in a beach blanket with sea wind whipping around us.
